At 6 AM 17 members showed up at the Mashpee ramp for the start of the 2009 season. The weather cooperated for the most part with the sun peeking through the clouds promising to make it a beautiful day...but the clouds rolled in and took over the sky to make it overcast for most of the day with only a few showers now and then.
At 7AM, 14 boats (3 with non-boaters) took off for their favorite spots. Most of the fish caught (I'm told) were on beds .....but being one of the 7 anglers that got skunked, I wouldn't know. This proved true at the weigh-in......First Place went to Jeff Coates with a total weight of 17.79 NICE BAG !!! ( but are you suprised ??) Second Place went to Jim Zarella with a 15.84 bag & Gary Joys 5 fish tipped the scale at 15.28 to take Third Place. There were some nice size brought in..3 Smallmouths weighed in at 3.69, 3.24, and 3.17--- the 2 Largemouths were weighed in ...one at 3.63 and the LUNKER largie was 4.17 caught by......you guessed it........Jeff Coates. All in all not a bad first Tournament with 35 fish caught and a total weight of 97.30 lbs.
Lets hope Billington Sea is just as good, if not better,on May 17th.
